MEMORIAL PAGE – Lieutenant Shirley Lanning, Canadian Cty Sheriffs, OK

Around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2020, Lieutenant Shirley Lanning, Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma, was killed in a head-on crash on the Northwest Expressway in northwest Oklahoma City, according to Oklahoma City police.

Two people in the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Lt. Lanning began her law enforcement career with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, according to Canadian County Sheriff Chris West. She later retired from the University of Central Oklahoma campus police before she joined the CCSO approximately six years ago.

Lt. Lanning served as a law enforcement officer for over 30 years altogether, Sheriff West told reporters on Friday afternoon.

The collision remains under investigation.
