MEMORIAL PAGE – Senior Deputy Christopher Korzilius, TX (March 18, 2020)

About 6:49am on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, two vehicles collided on the 7700 block of Farm to Market Road 2244,  west of Loop 360 and Austin, TX

Senior Deputy Christopher Korzilius, Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash allegedly occurred when a westbound, two-door Infiniti crossed over to the wrong side and collided with an eastbound Ford Escape driven by Senior Deputy Christopher Korzilius, aged 32, who was on duty at the time.

The Sheriff’s vehicle overturned, trapping Deputy Korzilius inside. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Deputy Korzilius had served with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office [TCSO] for four years and was assigned to the VICE Unit.

The other driver apparently was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with potentially serious but non life-threatening injuries.

TCSO said the crash is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety, assisted by the TCSO HEAT (Highway Enforcement and Accident Team) unit.

Sr. Deputy Korzilius was the eighth deputy with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to be killed in the line of duty.
