According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Paul Dunn, 50, of Lakeland Police, was killed in a one-vehicle crash on his police motorcycle. This occurred about 5:45 a.m. this morning — January 9, 2020 — on Lakeland Highlands Road just south of Lake Miriam Drive.
Deputies said Officer Dunn was driving the Harley Davidson Police Road King motorcycle to work when the crash occurred.
He was en route to the police station on his department motorcycle when he struck the raised median of the roadway. He was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
Officer Dunn, was a US Marine Corps veteran who then served with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years and the Lakeland Police Department for six years.
