On March 8, 1958, Officer Raymond Vincent O’Connor, aged 30, of the California State Police, was killed in an automobile crash.
The cruiser Officer O’Connor was riding in collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Officer O’Connor and his partner were returning to San Francisco after patrolling state property in San Jose.
The California State Police has since merged with the California Highway Patrol and they now operate only under the latter name.
Officer O’Connor had served with the agency for five years.
