Memorial Page – NY State Police Trooper Raymond A. Plunkett

Trooper Plunkett, 27, died on January 5, 1934 as a result of a crash on Kirkland Hill, south of Utica, NY.

Returning to the Oneida barracks from his residence in Clinton, Trooper Plunkett’s vehicle was forced off the right side of the road.  He lost control and skidded on icy pavement across the road into a ditch striking a pole.  At the hospital, he was being treated for fractures of the jaw and facial bones when he died unexpectedly of a blood clot in his heart.

Memorial Page – NY State Police Trooper Robert W. Ambrose

Trooper Robert Ambrose, 31, was killed on December 19, 2002, when his troop car was struck from behind by a vehicle on the New York State Thruway in the city of Yonkers.

Trooper Ambrose was investigating a property damage automobile collision when a speeding vehicle, being operated by a 20-year old intoxicated driver, lost control and struck the rear of his Troop Car. This caused the Troop Car to catch fire and resulted in Trooper Ambrose’s death. A person from the original accident Trooper Ambrose had been investigating and the intoxicated driver were also killed in the crash.

Trooper Ambrose was a five-year veteran of the State Police and had served in Troops K, F and T.  He was assigned to SP Tarrytown at the time of his death.

Memorial Page – NY State Police Corporal Harold F. Myers

Corporal Harold Myers, 42, was killed instantly on December 19, 1950, while en route to investigate a hit and run accident.

Corporal Myers was a passenger in the Troop vehicle when it collided with another car near Amsterdam, New York.

Corporal Myers was the first Troop G member to be killed in the line of duty since Trooper Stanley C. Greene died on February 28, 1936.  Ironically, Corporal Myers served in the Guard of Honor during Trooper Greene’s funeral.
